Why do some podcasts keep showing up in Google? 🤔 (Podcraft Pointers)

Hello, Podcrafters!

Have you ever searched something within your show's broad topic and noticed it's always the same websites (and podcasts) that get cited and linked to?

Have you ever wondered how they do it?

Three years ago, the answer would've been simple - SEO. Searchable titles, good keywords, and Yoast-optimised blog posts.

That's not to say that these factors no longer matter. But in the AI search era, things have gotten a little more nuanced.

In 2026, the best advice is to show Google you have EEAT. This isn't some weird, grammatically incorrect food pic meme. EEAT stands for:

  • Experience
  • Expertise
  • Authoritativeness
  • Trustworthiness

This framework helps Google ensure it’s suggesting content that is helpful, reliable and people-first. Writing for The Podcast Host blog, Sarah McDowell guides us through EEAT, and how to get the best from it...

Mic Drop Fact: Two tones can create a fake third tone in your brain.
When each ear hears slightly different frequencies, the brain perceives a rhythmic pulse called a binaural beat.

🧐The Definition of a Podcast?

Later this month, a task force of industry leaders known as the Alliance for Measurement in Podcasting will attempt to define what a podcast actually is. This is actually harder than it first appears. I had a go myself when updating our How Do Podcasts Work guide, and here's what I finally settled on...

A podcast is an episodic, on-demand audio or video show that audiences intentionally follow and consume on the platform of their choice.

I know that some folks take a "why does it matter?" approach. But if the podcast industry has no agreed-upon definition, does it cease to be an industry? If advertisers or marketing departments can no longer pinpoint what counts as podcasting spend or revenue, does that spending simply stop, redirected to formats that can be measured and justified?

AMP won't land on a perfect answer this month, but they need to land on an answer.

⛔ Tech Getting in Your Way? 😣

Most podcasters don't start because they want to become audio engineers or spend hours editing.

We built Alitu so you could focus on your voice, your message, and your audience. Try it free for seven days, and see for yourself how quick and easy it makes everything.

Some notable features include text-based editing, automatic filler-word removal, and you'll be amazed at how it cleans up your audio and fixes the volume levels.

You can also record and publish your podcast in the Alitu interface, meaning you don't need multiple subscriptions to other platforms.

It's the ultimate all-in-one podcast platform, built for podcasters, by podcasters. And you can earn $25 for each new customer you refer to Alitu, too!

Cheers!

Hello, Podcrafters! So... can you make money podcasting from day one? Well, it isn’t impossible! I’ve known podcasters to have pretty decent sponsorships set up with new shows before they’ve even published an episode. To support this newsletter, please check out Alitu.com - the best, quickest, and easiest podcast editing software on the planet. The catch is, this wasn’t their first rodeo. These were accomplished creators who had built audiences around other channels previously. Even though...

Hello, Podcrafters! A pal of mine spent years working in radio advertising. He once told me that his entire job boiled down to one number: How many people will hear it? As podcasters, we should be cautious about borrowing that model when it comes to finding sponsors. I'm not going to get into the nuances of radio audiences vs podcast audiences, which is a whole other topic. But even if we compare two different podcast audiences purely by download numbers, we can miss the point entirely. To...

Hello, Podcrafters! I'll save you the preamble... we've got some more great questions in, so let's get right to them. To support this newsletter, please check out Alitu.com - the best, quickest, and easiest podcast editing software on the planet. How do I sound authoritative on a topic I'm still learning about? I would avoid trying to sound "authoritative" and instead own the fact that you're on a learning journey alongside the listener. Be constantly curious. If you're interviewing someone,...
