One in three clip viewers becomes a listener πŸ“± (Podcraft Pointers)

Hello, Podcrafters!

Did you catch Sounds Profitable's recent Podcast Atlas piece, The Front Door? In it, Tom Webster looked at what short clips actually do for a show, and the numbers make a strong case for paying attention.

89% of listeners watch podcast clips on social platforms at least sometimes, and 72% do so often or always. That's most of your potential audience, already sat in feeds you could be showing up in. And it's not wasted attention: 74% of clip viewers watch with full or near-full focus, only a few points behind full episodes.

The conversion number is the one to remember: roughly a third of clip viewers go on to watch the episode or become a regular listener, often or always. That's a real, repeatable discovery engine, and one that's especially good at reaching people who are new to podcasting altogether.

The key to making that happen: viewers say they can tell there's a full episode behind a clip when the creator mentions it, or when an on-screen title flags it. A clip that just entertains and ends is wasted. A clip built as a doorway, one that clearly points somewhere, is what pulls people back to the show.

Handy timing: Alitu now has a Social Clips tool in beta, right on your episode page, letting you pull short audio or video clips (up to two minutes) straight from your episode. No separate recorder or editor needed!

πŸ™ Team Update

A big thank you to Bran, Tom, Matthew, and Jacob, who between them gave 29 years of service to the team. Their roles have come to an end as part of some changes here, and we're enormously grateful for everything they've contributed along the way. We wish them all the very best for what comes next.

Hello, Podcrafters! Ever hit publish on a podcast episode and feel like the job's done? Tomas Loucky used to think so too, until he realised he was sitting on dozens of content ideas and only ever using one. His fix was simple: stop thinking in terms of separate platforms and start thinking in conversations. Every episode already has the stories, quotes and opinions baked in. The trick is just spotting them and giving each one the right home. To support this newsletter, please check out...

Hello, Podcrafters! Last month, Losh Moodaley wrote a piece for us on how CPM thinking leads indie podcasters to underprice their shows when arranging sponsorships. To support this newsletter, please check out Alitu.com - the best, quickest, and easiest podcast editing software on the planet. That initial guide reframed how we should think about our audience when approaching potential sponsors, and why it's more about access than pure scale and reach. I learned a lot from it. But I had one...
