Is this podcast advice now redundant? 😵‍💫 (Podcraft Pointers)

Hello, Podcrafters!

I went into last week with a solid plan to tackle my post-holiday to-do list. Then on Monday night, the entire house was struck down with the lurgy 🤒

I lost two entire days (or, gained two, if you're a fan of psychedelic fever dreams!), but was finally inspired to get out of my bed by my daughter, who made me a get-well-soon card, despite her and her mum also being ill. I must've been in a right state 😂

Mic Drop Fact: There’s a sound you can’t unhear.
Once your brain recognizes the words in a distorted or reversed sound clip, you can’t go back to hearing it as gibberish. This is due to perceptual learning in speech. Your brain “locks in” to the pattern, a process known as the pop-out effect in auditory perception.

Anyway, now that the brain fog is slowly clearing, I'm beginning to remember that I write a weekly newsletter, or something like that. Better get on with it eh...

🎯 Your Podcast Pointers

🧽 Is "You can't fix it in post" obsolete advice? (Blog)

AI audio tools don’t replace good recording habits, nor should they. But they do remove barriers that stop people from sharing what matters. Even experienced podcasters still struggle with tech, and it's reassuring to know that, if something goes wrong, you can fix it in post.

🚐 Growth on the road: Building a podcast while living off-grid (Podcraft)

What does it take to grow a podcast while living off-grid and travelling full-time? Cara and James from Kerouac’s Cruising share how they’ve turned life on the road into a show about freedom, mindset, and self-discovery. Their story is one of persistence and steady growth, learning new skills, overcoming imposter syndrome, and building an audience through authenticity.

📊 Crossing the 100-download mark: What successful indies do differently (Podcraft Perspectives)

Some interesting workflow trends from our upcoming Indie Podcasters Report - here's what high-download podcasters do differently to achieve their success.

🗂️ Podcast media kit examples, tips, & resources
(Blog)

Does your podcast need a media kit? Yes, definitely. A podcast media kit is a package of information about your podcast that’s easy to share and consume. Think of it as an appetiser sampler platter: It’s a condensed, snack-sized, flavorful version of your work that leaves listeners wanting more.

🙋 Have you already launched your podcast? (Question)

We love helping new podcasters get started, but thriving comes from building momentum and creating great content. If you’re already past launch, click the link so we can share resources that help you stay consistent, grow, and monetise.

🧰 Best podcast starter kit for all budgets & formats (Blog)

Whilst there's no "one-size-fits-all" podcast starter kit, there are a few that cover most situations. Here, we run you through our favourites.

🔍 There's research to show and there's research to know (YouTube)

Plan on running an audience survey or report in your niche? Tom Webster points out a crucial difference between two primary research approaches.

🚪 Podcast intro formula: What to say and what to skip (YouTube)

Every single episode you publish will be someone's first impression of your show. If you lose them in the intro, they'll probably never give you another shot. So how do you optimise this crucial phase?

Podcast promotion checklist (Download)

I bet promotion and audience growth are high on your agenda. I'll also bet that you haven't tried everything when it comes to finding new listeners. Our SCALE checklist is one to print out and pin on your wall.

🎧 Boost listener engagement with a scorecard (Paid Content)

Podcasts are powerful, but our downside is that they’re mostly one-way. ScoreApp changes that by making your show interactive. Create a branded scorecard tied to your episode topic. For us, it might be: “Take the Podcast Growth Scorecard to see where you stand.”

Listeners get personalised feedback, and you get useful data. It’s perfect for increasing engagement, building your list, and even pointing listeners toward your services or offers.

Hello, Podcrafters! I never thought I'd see the day when I was unironically writing a "this one simple trick" style headline, but here we are. It's honestly a good one! Mic Drop Fact: The world’s quietest outdoor place. Scientists found a “silent zone” in the volcanic craters of Haleakalā, Hawaii, where wind and animal sounds are nearly absent. Some describe it as “visibly quiet.” But I bet if I tried to record there, someone would still fire up a lawnmower nearby. This week's Pointers is...

Hey all! Technically, you could run a podcast month-to-month without spending any money producing it. But the big question is: can you produce a successful show? I was surprised to see as much as 17% of the creators who took our Independent Podcaster Survey this year say they produce their show on no budget whatsoever. I dipped into the data to see if these podcasters are still managing to reach their goals, get the downloads in and sustain a regular show while keeping costs non-existent. Can...

Hey all! You might remember a while ago, Buzzsprout told us that getting 27 downloads per episode would put you in the top 50% of all shows on the platform. So we weren't suprised to find that half of all those who took our independent podcaster survey this year get less than 50 downloads per episode. But while 50 downloads is a great achievement, I was curious to know more about the 32% who have crossed that 100-download mark. What are these podcasters doing differently, and is there...
