Finding the sweet spot for episode releases 👌 (Podcraft Pointers)

This week, we’ve got a brilliant breakdown on podcast release schedules, and how your own frequency can work for or against you.

Plus, on the latest Podcraft episode, we chatted about why we’re big fans of walking and talking: both meetings and podcast recordings.

Admittedly, it’s a bit awkward carrying the studio table with a plateful of doughnuts and six cafetiers on it. Still, though... 🍩

Mic Drop Fact: Sound can reduce anxiety and stress.
A small study in rats found that exposure to a 528 Hz tone lowered anxiety like behavior and boosted brain testosterone, and a preliminary human study hinted it may reduce stress hormones. Scientists are still exploring how, but it has sparked interest in this so called healing frequency.

Thanks to everyone who answered our recent poll: “Do you listen to other podcasts that cover the same topic as your own show?”

  • 52% said yes
  • 27% said no
  • 21% said occasionally, mostly for research

It’s a funny one, isn’t it? If you’re a teacher or coach, it makes sense you’d want to keep your ideas your own. But on the flip side, does shutting yourself off mean missing out on fresh perspectives? There’s no right answer here, but it’s an interesting debate. 🙂

Anyway, here’s your weekly shot of podcasting goodness…

Hey! Algorithms dictate a lot of what we consume online nowadays – so much so that some say they're controlling our lives. Yikes! But algorithms can be really positive too – especially when it comes to helping listeners find more content they're actually interested in and want more of. So it's easy to see why creators, listeners and industry folks are all conflicted about the long-term impact of algorithms on podcasting. Let's dive into the pros, the cons, and what it all means for your...

Mic Drop Fact: Bats use ultrasound to navigate. Bats navigate and hunt in pitch dark using echolocation, emitting sounds at frequencies above 20,000 Hz, which is beyond human hearing. Before we get to this week's podcast promotion masterclass, here's a quick anecdote. I had to endure some particularly tough interview questions last night - I suddenly found myself (inexplicably) being grilled about extinction-level meteors. Not on a podcast, you understand, but a short car journey with my...

Mic Drop Fact: Elephants use infrasound to communicate Sounds below 20 Hz (infrasound) can be felt more than heard and are used by elephants for long-distance communication. These sounds can be felt from several kilometres away. We've all been there: 45 minutes into a guest interview, the big points already covered, but still stretching to reach the hour. It feels natural since that’s how long we scheduled. But your audience isn’t watching the clock. In this week’s feature, we break down the...
